No Rest for the Wicked features six weapon types: swords, hammers, bows, polearms, greatshields, and dual blades. (Three were available at Early Access launch; polearms, greatshields, and dual blades arrive with the 1.0 update.) Each weapon type has a unique moveset, stat scaling profile, and weight class.
Weapon type breakdown
| Weapon | Weight | Scaling | Best For |

| Bow | Light | Perception | Ranged DPS, elemental arrows |

| Greatshield | Heavy | Strength | Tanking, blocking (1.0) |
| Dual Blades | Light | Dexterity | Fast combos, crit builds (1.0) |
Best early game weapons
The starter sword is viable through chapter 1. Upgrade it to +2. In chapter 2, the Firebrand Sword (found in the Marsh of Echoes) is excellent against poison enemies. The Warden's Club (boss drop) is the best hammer through endgame if you invest in Strength.
Weapon scaling improves with upgrade level. A +3 sword gets better Dexterity scaling than a +1 sword. Always upgrade your main weapon first.
The Best Builds guide pairs weapons with skill tree choices. The Crafting entity page explains upgrade mechanics. The Items guide lists every weapon's location.
FAQ
- What is the best weapon type for beginners?
- Swords are the most forgiving. They balance speed and damage, letting you learn enemy patterns without being too slow or too fragile.
- Can I dual-wield any weapons?
- Dual Blades are a specific weapon type coming in 1.0. You cannot dual-wield arbitrary weapon combinations.
