No Rest for the Wicked Classes — Playstyles and Build Foundations

Updated 2026-06-03

No Rest for the Wicked does not have traditional classes. You start with a blank character and allocate stats freely as you level up. Your starting choices in the opening area — weapon preference, first few skill points — effectively define your 'class' direction. This guide covers the main archetypes and how to build them.

Stat archetypes

ArchetypePrimary StatSecondaryWeapons
KnightStrengthEnduranceSwords, hammers, greatshields
RogueDexterityPerceptionDual blades, bows
WarriorStrengthDexterityPolearms, axes
PaladinStrengthVitalitySwords, greatshields (co-op tank)
RangerPerceptionDexterityBows, light melee

Starting stat allocation

For the first 10 levels, invest 60% of points into your primary stat and 40% into your secondary. Vitality (HP) should get at least 5 points before the chapter 2 boss. Endurance (stamina) is never wasted — every build benefits from more stamina.

Do not spread points across more than two damage stats. A Strength/Dexterity hybrid (polearm build) works, but Strength/Perception does not — no weapon scales with both.

The Best Builds guide provides full builds for each archetype. The Skill Tree guide shows which nodes to prioritize. The Respec guide explains how to change your build later.

FAQ

Is there a best class for beginners?
The Knight archetype (Strength + Endurance) is the most forgiving. More HP and stamina mean you can survive mistakes while learning enemy patterns.
Can I change my class later?
You can respec skill points, but stat allocation is permanent. Plan your stats carefully.
